Driver Athlete started as a Physiotherapy based program for drivers through High Line Active. And is now a stand alone Human Performance testing and training program encompassing all Fitness, Strength and Conditioning, Biomechanics - movement optimisation for efficiency, Seat ergonomic modifications and injury prevention via our Physiotherapists. We also have an in house Sports Dietician for Nutrition and Hydration Optimisation plus a Sports Psychologist for mental skills training.

Driver Athlete is Lead by Director Nicole Bryant (Physiotherapist) who is currently the Human Performance Coach for Drivers and Crew at Walkinshaw Andretti United. (Supercars Team) Nicole is one of, if not the most frequently engaged Human performance advisor in Australian Motorsport with over 10 years experience in Supercars and 20 years as a Physiotherapist. Nicole has solved physical performance issues for leading drivers  such as, David Reynolds, Luke Youlden, Andre Heimgartner, Mark Winterbottom, Brodie Kostecki, Will Brown, Chaz Mostert and many more in over 10 years in Motorsport and 20 years as a Physiotherapist.

Why do drivers need to be athletes?

Motor racing is more competitive than ever. Success on track requires a perfect execution of human and mechanical and team performance. Driving skills are consistently executed when fitness, fuel mental focus are optimised and maintained throughout a session. Drivers can take control of all of the human performance variables with a more individualised approach.

How we ensure success?
  • A thorough Mental and Physical assessment designed around key performance criteria we know contributes to racing success 

  • Properly identifying driver strengths and weaknesses

  • Developing an evidence based individualised performance program 

  • Working with the athlete to ensure the program is achievable based on life and racing demands. 

  • Training at our gym either individual or groups. All the weights, cardio equipment, boxing gloves, pilates equipment reaction and vision trainer machines required are onsite. 

  • Unique group based driver training that replicate highly competitive situations. The best way to learn to fight harder on the track is to compete in training. 

  • Available remote training programs with video based app technology adaptable to gyms and hotel rooms. 

  • Available telehealth remote based consults with our providers to keep athletes on track wherever they are. 

  • A team approach with regular communication to their trusted engineer, driver coach or manager to ensure no stone is left unturned and we are all working together to build them into the most successful driver athlete possible.

FAQs for curious Driver Athletes

Question: Im not a professional, Im in karts would this be for me?

 

The earlier you start developing your body and mind the better. Come straight to the experts and build the correct way for driving, by the team that develop the professionals. As a young or developing driver it's crucial you develop correct strength and motor control patterns. And important you don't waste time training areas that won't help you driving with professionals that don't understand motorsport. 

Question: Im a Bronze driver with a little or a lot of experience, or Im a club racer wanting to perform better and learn what the professionals are doing?

 

Bronze drivers: 

  • Prepare your mind and body to get more out of your racing/ get better race results. 

  • Learn skills to help you concentrate and focus, improve your physical endurance, get better comfort in the car, learn to fuel your body optimally.  

 

Club Drivers:

  • Develop some key basics to improve your racing

  • Perform at your best so you enjoy your racing and get the most out of it.

 

We work with drivers from karting to Australian GT and overseas categories, of all ages.

Question: I don't live near Richmond, Victoria Australia  can I still join the program?

Yes! Australian Residents can join. We deliver remote programs. So we'll write you a personalised video based exercise program. We will have regular check ins via video chat appointments and go through your programs. We've have numerous athletes who aren't local to the studio. But when they are in town they come to the studio to train, have Physiotherapy treatment or see the Sports Dietician or Sports Psychologist in person or to say hi.  Remote programs are also great for hotel rooms or gyms for busy traveling athletes. 

Question: My mentors say I shouldn't train with other drivers and be friends with them?

 

There's a outdated notion that drivers shouldn't train together. During our sessions we pit drivers against each other and create highly competitive situations which is unique to these sessions.

Competitive situations will make you a better athlete and driver.  Driving is so unique because the opportunities to practice on the track are fairly rare. So we will challenge you to compete for aerobic, strength and reactions training. This hones your mental and physical fitness.  Whether you are friends or not is up to you :)
